Endless Wave Morocco · The Guide
Two ways to chase waves in Morocco — which one is yours?
The Big Question
What's the actual difference?
You're planning your Morocco surf trip. You've found Taghazout on the map, you've watched the videos, you've seen the waves. Now comes the question that every surfer hits before they book: surf hostel or surf camp?
The answer isn't obvious — and most blog posts give you a watered-down "it depends." Here at Endless Wave Morocco, we've stayed in both, run trips through both, and sent hundreds of surfers through both options on the Souss coast. So here's the honest, unfiltered breakdown.
Short version: they are fundamentally different experiences. Not better or worse — different. And choosing the wrong one for your style will cost you the trip.
Surf
Hostel
A place to sleep, store your board, and meet the people chasing the same swell. You're in control of everything — and that's the whole point.
-
🏠Accommodation style Shared dorms or private rooms. Common areas, shared kitchens, rooftop terraces. You're living alongside other surfers, not a managed group.
-
💰Cost range 150–350 MAD/night (dorm). Meals are separate — eat at the local spots, cook yourself, or graze on street food. Budget-flexible.
-
🏄Surf inclusion Nothing is included. You arrange your own lessons, board rental, and transfers. More legwork, but you choose your instructor and your break.
-
👥Social vibe Organic, self-organising. You meet whoever shows up. Some nights are quiet, some are legendary. No schedule — you make your own.
-
🗓Flexibility Maximum. Stay one night or three weeks. Change plans mid-trip. Arrive without a surfboard and improvise. This is backpacker energy.
-
📈Skill progression Entirely dependent on your own initiative. You might improve dramatically — or spend a week surfing the same break doing the same things.
Surf
Camp
A structured, all-in programme. Coaching, accommodation, meals, transfers, and a daily surf schedule, all bundled into one package designed to accelerate your riding.
-
🏡Accommodation style Private or shared rooms in a dedicated house or villa. Meals served communally. Everything happens within the camp ecosystem.
-
💰Cost range 500–1,500 MAD/night, all-inclusive. Looks expensive upfront — but meals, transfers, coaching, and board rental are all covered. Costs even out.
-
🏄Surf inclusion Daily sessions with a qualified coach. Video analysis at many camps. Board provided. Breaks chosen for your level — you're not guessing.
-
👥Social vibe Built-in community of people at similar levels with the same mission. Tighter, more curated. Less spontaneous but often more intense friendships.
-
🗓Flexibility Low. You book a week-long package with a fixed programme. Great if you thrive on structure — challenging if you want to disappear for a day on your own.
-
📈Skill progression Dramatically faster. Daily coaching, consistent feedback, proper video review at quality camps. Expect to jump a clear level in one week.

- →Travelling on a tighter budget and want to stretch every dirham
- →Coming to Taghazout as part of a longer Morocco trip

- →Travelling solo and want a ready-made crew and community
- →Someone who prefers not to plan every detail — just arrive and go
- →Coming for one focused week and want maximum return on your time
- →A couple or group where surf levels differ — coaches handle that
- →Someone who has tried self-teaching and hit a frustrating plateau
I spent two weeks at a hostel in Taghazout and got maybe four good sessions in. I didn't know which breaks to go to, I rented the wrong board twice, and my technique didn't move. Best social trip of my life though.
— Jamie, surfer from Bristol, UK
Seven days at a camp and I went from being terrified of overhead waves to actually riding them. The video sessions changed everything. I saw exactly what my body was doing wrong. Worth every dirham.

Endless Wave Morocco
Either way,
Taghazout wins.
The waves don't care which bed you slept in. They'll be there either way — and so will we.
