Day 6: Etiquette and safety

Day 6: the rules of the line-up that every surfer needs to know, and how to stay safe.

1. The surfer closest to where the wave breaks has priority. Never take a wave someone is already riding.
2. Never throw your board: always keep hold of it, especially near other surfers.
3. When you paddle back out, go around the surfers who are riding, through the whitewater.
4. Respect the local surfers and start at beginner spots, not at the famous points.
5. Know when to stop: when you are tired, cold or unsure, come back to the beach.
